Tips for storing dried flowers during Tokyo's rainy season.

Dried flowers require humidity control.

keep out of direct sunlight and the humidity low.

To fully enjoy dried flowers for as long as possible, it is essential to avoid direct sunlight, high temperatures, and humidity.

Here are some tips for preserving your dried flowers:
① Avoid placing dried flowers in direct sunlight or near windows that receive direct sunlight. Place dried flowers in a place where the sun doesn't reach them directly.
② Display dried flowers in a well-ventilated area with low humidity.

Especially during the rainy season, the humidity in the room tends to be high due to continuous rain.
By keeping the humidity low using an air conditioner or dehumidifier, the color of the dried flowers will last as long as possible.

How to Maintain Low Humidity Levels in a Room with Dried Flowers

The ideal humidity level for dried flowers varies with the temperature, but it is recommended to keep the humidity low. (based on Tokyo's humidity during the rainy season).

The ideal humidity for dried flowers is 30-50%.

The proper humidity changes depending on the temperature, but it is recommended to keep the humidity low.
*Based on Tokyo during the rainy season.

The feeling of humidity
(Reference: Assuming the temperature in Tokyo during the rainy season)

40-50% - Dry, refreshing and comfortable atomosphere.
60% - Comfortable depending on the weather and temperature.
70% - A normal rainy day, which feels humid.
80-90% - Continuous rainy days, which feels humid badly.
Using an air conditioner's "dry" or "cooling" functions or a dehumidifier is very effective in reducing humidity and is highly recommended.

(Rainy Season / long rains)
Please be careful of high humidity caused by continuous rain.

Depending on where you live, there may be a risk of unusually high humidity due to long rains, which can be detrimental to dried flowers. (Especially from June to mid-July)

Dryers, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers are also effective.

Reducing humidity levels with an air conditioner's "dry" or "cooling" functions or a dehumidifier is also effective and recommended.
*Please be careful of the wind direction so that the wind does not hit the flowers directly.

Place Dried Flowers in a Well-Ventilated, Low-Humidity area

If your dried flowers are displayed near a window on a rainy day or in a room with high humidity levels, such as the entrance or bathroom, we recommend moving them to a well-ventilated area with low humidity.
*On sunny days after rain, open the windows to reduce the humidity and place your dried flowers in a shady spot with good ventilation to enjoy the flowers for as long as possible.

An environment with high humidity that is not suitable for dried flowers

・By the window (around the window) on a rainy day
・Areas near the entrance of rainy day, the bathroom or the washroom
・Rooms with a humidifier
・Outdoors in general, etc.

Pay special attention to humidity for preserved flowers

Especially in the rainy season when the humidity is high, pay attention to the seepage of the dye (preservation solutions).
Some flower materials, swags, or arrangements may use dyed (colored) flower materials, including preserved flowers.
During the rainy season, when it rains every day, if the flower materials and bouquets are displayed in a place with high humidity and temperature, the dye may seep out from the cut ends of the stems, the leaves and the surface of the flowers. (liquid dripping and leakage).
*There have been reports of dripping with preserved flowers (dyed eucalyptus) made by some manufacturers (currently not used at our shop).
Please be careful of high humidity as it may stain the wall, floor, or clothes when you hold it in your hand.

If dried flowers smell bad

Regarding the scent of dry flowers, in general,
The flowers may have their original scent depending on the materials used (Sometimes it doesn't smell.)
Some natural dry flower materials, such as statice or gypsophila/ baby's breath, have their own scent (which may vary in dark or light due to natural origin).
Some preserved flower materials that have been processed to be white or off-white may emit a scent due to bleaching or storage when you bring your face close to them.

Due to the weather or seasonal reasons such as the rainy season,
・high humidity area
・closed/sealed area
may smell bad.

If your swag is currently placed by the window on a rainy day, or in a room with high humidity, such as the entrance or bathroom, it may cause an unpleasant smell. In such cases, try moving the swag to a location with good ventilation, low humidity, and no direct sunlight.
On rainy days, if possible, use "dry" or "cooling" air conditioning and keep the humidity low to prolong the life of your dried flowers.
*Please pay attention to the direction of the wind so that the wind does not hit the flowers directly.
